A study showed that rosemary extract (RE) significantly enhanced the nutritional value and freshness of extruded pet foods. Using rice, green peas, and wrinkled peas as starch sources, pet foods supplemented with increasing RE concentrations (0, 1.0, 10.0, 30.0 g/kg) exhibited a dose-dependent improvement in total phenol content and DPPH radical scavenging capacity.
Conclusion: Rosemary extract offers a natural alternative to synthetic antioxidants, improving pet food safety, palatability, and shelf life.
