1. What is rosemary extract? How about the antioxidative properties?
The extract is from rosemary (Rosmarinus officinalis Linn.), a common household plant that has grown
in the Alps since the middle Ages, and is now found throughout the world. Rosemary has been used for thousands of years as a savory spice, food preservative, in cosmetics and hair products, and as an herbal  for a variety of health disorders. Until now however, the exact chemical pathways involved in its beneficial effects have remained unknown.

What is Mulberry Extract?

 What’s the effect of 1-Deoxynojirimycin on Blood Lipid Profiles in Humans?
Mulberry leaves are rich in 1-deoxynojirimycin (DNJ), an inhibitor of α-glucosidase. We previously showed that DNJ-rich Mulberry leaf extract suppressed elevation of postprandial blood glucose in humans. The objective of this study was to evaluate the effects of DNJ-rich Mulberryleaf extract on plasma lipid profiles in humans. An open-label, single-group study was conducted in 10 subjects with initial serum triglyceride (TG) level ≥200 mg/dl. Subjects ingested capsules containing DNJ-rich Mulberry leaf extract at 12 mg three times daily before meals for 12 weeks. Our findings showed a modest decrease in serum TG level and beneficial changes in the lipoprotein profile following 12-week administration of DNJ-rich Mulberry leaf extract. No significant changes in hematological or biochemical parameters were observed during the study period; no adverse events associated with DNJ-rich Mulberry leaf extract occurred.

How does 4-hydroxyisoleucine compare with other insulin regulators?
It appears that 4-hydroxyisoleucine is far more potent than any other insulin mimetic or insulin potentiator currently in use as a dietary supplement. For example, it has been shown to potentiate insulin secretion 25 times more effectively than leucine, 15 times more effectively than isoleucine, and begins to workout 1/10th the dosage of these two amino acids. The effect of fenugreek 4-hydroxyisoleucine on liver function
Fenugreek is a plant traditionally used for the treatment of diabetes. It contains an unusual amino acid, 4-hydroxyisoleucine, demonstrated to have insulinotropic and antidiabetic properties in animal models. Here we examine the effect of 4-hydroxyisoleucine on liver function and blood glucose in two rat models of insulin resistance, fructose-fed rats and streptozotocin-induced diabetes type 2. In fructose-fed rats, levels of glucose and liver damage marker aspartate transaminase were markedly (84% and 93%, respectively) and significantly elevated compared with controls (p < 0.001 for both). Alanine transaminase was elevated slightly (18%), and all markers were restored to near control values after treatment with 4-hydroxyisoleucine at 50 mg/kg per day for 8 weeks, the effect being significant (p < 0.01) for all markers. This prolonged exposure to 4-hydroxyisoleucine was well tolerated in control animals and did not alter levels of glucose or liver damage markers significantly. In diabetic rats, treatment with 4-hydroxyisoleucine did not affect glucose or liver damage markers, but did improve HDL-cholesterol levels (31% increase, p < 0.05). These findings indicate 4-hydroxyisoleucine as a useful and well-tolerated treatment for insulin resistance, both directly as a hypoglycaemic and also as a protective agent for the liver.
